Sri Lanka 2007: fruits, elephants and woodcraft.

Road to Kandy. Elephant orphanage.

Elephant memory is not just a phrase – they truly remember much, including faces, often for life. At times this can be used against them: for example, when a baby elephant is tied by the rope, it learns that it cannot escape. An adult elephant have more strength can easily tear the rope, but they would not even try, since they would remember that it is impossible. On the contrary, if such elephant is to be tied by a chain, for example, it can try to break free.
